Ottawa Emergency Restoration

Water Damage Restoration in Ottawa – 24/7 Emergency Service

Water damage can happen without warning—from a burst pipe during an Ottawa winter to a flooded basement, sewer backup, appliance leak, or heavy rainfall. Even a small amount of standing water can damage flooring, drywall, insulation, furniture, and other building materials if it is not addressed quickly.

Emergency Water Damage Restoration in Ottawa

Water damage should be addressed as soon as possible. Water can move underneath flooring, behind drywall, into insulation, and into other areas that may not be visible during an initial inspection.

ONT Restoration helps Ottawa property owners respond to different types of water emergencies.

Water Emergencies We Handle

  • Burst or leaking pipes
  • Basement flooding
  • Sewer backups
  • Sump pump failures
  • Appliance and plumbing leaks
  • Heavy rain and stormwater intrusion
  • Snowmelt-related water intrusion
  • Overflowing sinks, toilets, bathtubs, and washing machines

Professional Assessment

Not all water damage is immediately visible. Water can travel beneath flooring, inside walls, around baseboards, and into insulation.

  • Where water has entered the property
  • Which areas have been affected
  • Whether moisture remains inside building materials
  • What materials may need removal
  • Whether drying equipment is required
  • Whether cleaning or sanitization is necessary
  • What restoration work should follow

The goal is not simply to remove visible water. The restoration plan should address the affected structure and help prevent ongoing moisture-related problems.

Emergency Service

24/7 Emergency Response

Water emergencies do not follow normal business hours. A plumbing failure or flooding problem can occur overnight, on a weekend, or during a holiday.

Our emergency restoration service is designed to help property owners move quickly from the initial water incident to assessment, extraction, drying, and restoration.

Assessment

Initial property assessment and identification of the water source.

Extraction & Drying

Water extraction, moisture detection, structural drying and dehumidification.

Cleaning & Restoration

Cleaning, sanitization, damaged-material removal, restoration and repairs.

Important: Company-specific response-time claims should only be added if ONT Restoration has a verified response-time commitment.

What to do right after water damage

If you discover water damage in your Ottawa home or business, focus on safety first. Do not enter an area if there is a risk of electrical shock, structural damage, sewage contamination, or other hazards.

Stop the water

If it is safe, shut off the water supply or stop the source of the leak. If the source cannot be safely accessed, leave it to a qualified professional.

Avoid electrical hazards

Do not walk through standing water if electrical equipment, outlets, appliances, or wiring may be affected. If there is any doubt about electrical safety, stay out.

Avoid contaminated water

Sewage backups and other contaminated water can present health risks. Avoid direct contact and keep children and pets away.

Protect valuables

If safe, move important belongings, furniture, documents, and other valuables away from the affected area.

Take photos

Photograph and document standing water, damaged flooring, wet drywall, furniture, leaking pipes, and affected rooms.

Call ONT Restoration

Once the property is safe, contact a professional restoration company for an assessment. Early intervention can help identify hidden moisture.

Common Causes of Water Damage in Ottawa

Ottawa properties can experience water damage from plumbing problems, weather conditions, drainage issues, and equipment failures.

Burst pipes

Ottawa's cold winter temperatures can increase the risk of frozen plumbing. When water inside a pipe freezes, pressure can build within the plumbing system and contribute to pipe failure.

Basement flooding

Basements are particularly vulnerable to water intrusion because they are below ground level.
• Heavy rainfall
• Snowmelt
• Foundation water intrusion
• Drainage problems
• Sump pump failure
• Sewer backup
• Plumbing leaks

Sewer backup

A sewer backup can introduce contaminated water into a basement, bathroom, utility room, or other areas. Affected areas should be assessed professionally before cleanup and restoration.

Sump pump failure

A sump pump plays an important role in many Ottawa basements. If the pump stops working during heavy rainfall or snowmelt, groundwater can accumulate and enter the basement.

Heavy rain & stormwater

Heavy rainfall can overwhelm drainage systems or expose weaknesses around roofs, foundations, windows, doors, and other entry points.

Snowmelt

Rapid snowmelt can increase the amount of water surrounding a property. If drainage systems, grading, foundation protection, or sump systems cannot handle the water, moisture may enter lower levels.

Our Ottawa water damage restoration process

Every water-loss situation is different, but professional restoration generally follows a structured process.

Emergency assessment

We assess the affected property and determine the likely source, extent, and type of water damage.

Find and stop the water

The water source should be controlled before restoration work progresses whenever possible.

Water extraction

Standing water is removed using appropriate extraction equipment.

Moisture inspection

Moisture may remain even after visible water has been removed. Floors, walls, ceilings, and other materials should be checked.

Structural drying

Professional drying may involve air movers and dehumidification equipment.

Cleaning & sanitation

Depending on the source and category of water, affected areas may require cleaning and sanitization.

Damaged material removal

Affected drywall, insulation, flooring, or other materials may need to be removed.

Repairs & reconstruction

After proper drying and cleaning, restoration can move into repair and reconstruction.

Final moisture verification

Affected areas should be checked to confirm that excessive moisture has been addressed.

Types of water damage we handle

Water damage is commonly discussed by the level of contamination associated with the water source.

Clean Water

Clean water generally comes from sources such as a supply pipe or certain appliance leaks. Although it may initially present a lower contamination risk, it can still cause significant property damage.

Grey Water

Grey water may contain contaminants and should be handled carefully. Examples can include certain appliance discharges or wastewater from sinks and other household sources.

Black Water

Black water is highly contaminated and can create significant health and safety concerns. Sewage backups and certain flood conditions may fall into this category. Do not attempt to clean heavily contaminated water yourself.

Basement water damage restoration
Basement Restoration

Basement Water Damage Restoration in Ottawa

Basement water damage can become more complicated when water enters flooring, drywall, insulation, finished walls, or stored belongings.

Our restoration approach focuses on identifying where the water came from and determining how far the moisture has travelled.

  • Flooding after heavy rain
  • Snowmelt
  • Sump pump failure
  • Sewer backup
  • Foundation leaks
  • Burst pipes
  • Plumbing failures

A basement may appear dry on the surface while moisture remains underneath flooring or inside walls. That is why moisture inspection and structural drying are important.

Contaminated Water

Sewage Backup Cleanup

Sewage backup requires more than standard water removal.

Sewage-contaminated water can affect flooring, drywall, insulation, personal belongings, and other porous materials.

  1. Assess the affected area
  2. Isolate contaminated areas
  3. Remove contaminated water
  4. Remove materials that cannot be safely restored
  5. Clean and sanitize affected surfaces
  6. Dry the structure
  7. Complete necessary repairs

Property owners should avoid unnecessary contact with sewage-contaminated water and keep children and pets away.

Last year, my family and I went on a vacation and totally enjoyed ourselves. What we experienced, upon returning home, will be embedded in our memories forever. Our lovely house was a complete disaster; water gushing all over, ceiling coming down, our furniture and belongings all drenched. After the initial shock, we realized that we needed professional support. A Google search turned up the company ONT Restoration (OR) and I made the call of a lifetime. On that long weekend holiday, the staff came over in less than 30 minutes. They told us not to enter the house due to the potential danger. That OR team came totally prepared to handle our predicament. Our only task was finding ourselves extended accommodation. The following day, my spouse and I met with the company’s management team, who explained the complete process. Taking the time to sit with us and assure us of their full support was really appreciated. Unfortunately, the house had to be gutted and the inside fully rebuilt. It took a while before we could return to a fully renovated home. During this time, ONT Restoration team was always there with a high level of quality service. In this regard, we have to highlight the various OR groups, who were with us: all the way from a flooded house to a full renovated beautiful home.  The cleanup crew did an excellent job of drying out the house, packaging our household items and taking them off site. They were very understanding and answered the numerous concerns we had. They were so helpful and patient, when we wanted boxes of items stored at OR  The Administrative staff was always just a phone call away. I may have been overbearing at times with my concerns but they only showed professionalism. We will always remember the empathy, understanding, support and cooperation received from them  But the main work, the complete house restoration, was performed by the rebuilt team. We cannot say enough of how they brought our home back to a wonderful state. They also demonstrated professionalism and full knowledge and experience in their field. They showed patience with our ongoing concerns and completed the project with our requests in mind. We cannot but praise ONT Restoration staff and management for bringing our home back and helping us to forget the horrific period that we experienced. Thank you so much ONT Restoration!

We experienced what we thought was a leaking water pipe in our basement. We called ONT Restoration and even though it was 9 pm, Soni Malik was quick to arrive. He was extremely friendly and informative. Upon inspection, Soni was able to identify the issue as condensation from a sagging furnace exhaust pipe. As the water damage was limited to the drywall, he explained that it wasn't necessary to use his dehumidifier and fans, and this saved us the additional rental costs! Would recommend Soni to anyone facing water damage!

Frequently Asked Questions ?

How quickly should I address water damage?

Water damage should be assessed as soon as reasonably possible. The longer moisture remains in building materials, the greater the risk of additional damage and microbial growth.

What should I do first after a pipe bursts?

If it is safe, stop the water source. Avoid electrical hazards and standing contaminated water, document the damage, and contact an appropriate professional for assessment.

Can water damage be hidden?

Yes. Moisture can move beneath flooring, behind drywall, inside walls, and into insulation. Visible drying does not always mean the structure is completely dry.

How long does water damage restoration take in Ottawa?

The timeline depends on the amount of water, affected materials, source of the water, moisture levels, drying conditions, and required repairs.

Can you restore basement water damage?

Yes, basement restoration may involve water extraction, moisture inspection, structural drying, cleaning, damaged-material removal, and repairs depending on the cause and extent of the damage.

Is sewage backup different from regular water damage?

Yes. Sewage-contaminated water requires additional safety and cleaning precautions because of the potential presence of harmful contaminants.

Will insurance cover my water damage?

It depends on your insurance policy and the cause of the damage. Contact your insurer to confirm coverage, exclusions, and deductible requirements.

Do I need to leave my home after water damage?

Not necessarily. It depends on the severity and type of damage, electrical safety, contamination, structural conditions, and whether the property remains safe to occupy.

Can water damage cause mold?
Excess moisture can create conditions that support mold growth. Prompt water removal, drying, and moisture control can help reduce this risk.
